I’ve been meaning to comment on this for about a week now and just haven’t had the time.

I hope that all of you out there know what it is to have good friends.  And for you women, I hope that you know what it is to have good girlfriends…

Last weekend, my dear friend June had a birthday party.  June is a single mom like I am and we’ve become very close friends over the past few years.  I consider myself blessed to know another Catholic, single mom who deals with much more than I could ever imagine handling.  She is the single most supportive person I have in my life - only because I don’t have to explain….she understands where I am without my even having to say it.

For her party, she got together a group of her best girlfriends.  Incidentally, we happen to know many of the same people! 

We ate (way too much food!), caught up on our lives, drank some wine…but best of all, we prayed together.  After pairing us up, we each took turns praying over our prayer partner.  The strength in prayer that exuded from that room while we were praying brought tears to my eyes.

I have been discerning for a few months recently what life it is that God has for me - what vocation I’m to follow.  I still don’t know that, but having such impressively prayerful friends made me feel so much a part of a bigger picture.

I thank God for all of my great friends - each and every one of you means the world to me and I am blessed for having known you.

Thank you all for making my life so rich in companionship, love and prayer.

So today was a somewhat harsh reminder of the fact that our Holy Catholic Church is an institution made up of fallible human beings.

I have a seminarian friend who left yesterday night - his Bishop pulled his sponsorship.  Because I have no desire to speculate and facts are scare, I just want to ask for your prayers for this friend of mine who, for as long as I have known him, has been seeking only to do the will of God.

I know that God’s plan is greater than ours and his time is different than ours and I am sure there are facts involved of which I know absolutely nothing….but I also know that feeling -

the one where your whole life is going merrily along…

someone makes a grand pronouncement that you have absolutely no control over…

and then you life is spinning totally out of control…

I pray tonight for my friend and I ask that you join me in asking that the peace of Christ help him to see his way clearly to the other side of this as the days go on.

I love Saturdays at the office…they always start with Mass in the Extraordinary form. I wish I could pray all day….weird, I know.
